Camp Buckeye Staff
Lucy Richards has served in various roles at Camp Buckeye for the past ten years, the last six as Executive Director. She is passionate about the Camp’s ability to touch lives with the love of Christ. Since Camp has been in existence; many folks have found it to be a place to be refreshed and restored as they enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. There are also many families who call it home every year for reunions, the summer campers fill camp with their laughter as they enjoy games, hikes, crafts, campfires and making new forever friends.
Her love for Camp Buckeye is also shared by her family, who often serve alongside her; she and her husband Jeff now have grandchildren attending and helping out at Camp. As Camp Buckeye embarks on its 31st year, please consider making it “Your Place to Be”!
Brenda Kurzen finds great joy in “helping out” wherever the need may arise – with her large family (17 and still growing!) or with the ministry opportunities she shares with her husband of 39 years (Abundant Life Christian Fellowship, Tuslaw’s F.C.A. and The C.O.O.L. Project). Going from being an occasional guest of Camp Buckeye’s programs over the past 20 years to “helping out” as Administrative Assistant has stretched her skills with the many details of Camp’s ministry, but has immeasurably multiplied her compassion, gratefulness, laughter and joy as she gets to observe up close the works of God in this beautiful setting!
Dave and Ryanne Kurzen of Massillon are our summer camp directors. Both have education degrees, played collegiate sports, and coached teams of their own. Married for 4 years, God has blessed them with Marie, Zachery, and Aubrey through fostering, adoption, and birth. Ryanne stays super busy at home and Dave is Dean of Students at a middle school in Akron. Both are leaders of small groups at their church in Canton. They met while working at Kanakuk Kamps in Branson, so they have a special place in their hearts for camp ministry. Over the years they had a loose connection to Camp Buckeye through friends and family, but responded to the tug they felt from God to help out. They are excited with what God is already doing here and take seriously the responsibility to disciple the kids and counselors who come in the summer.
Tom & Elsa Keefer live on campus as our ground keepers. They have always spent a lot of time outside and feel closer to God experiencing His creation. Tom & Elsa feel that finding Camp Buckeye has been God-ordained. They feel so privileged to work here and be able to serve together as a couple at this time in their lives. They have been married for 48 years and are blessed with a son, 2 daughters, and 6 grandchildren.
